CORA TILLIE ANSLEY

Posted

Cora Tillie Ansley was born April 6, 1935 to William “Bill” and Esther Gossett in Lincoln County, Colo.

She began her school years in a one-room school house in the Kendrick Community where she and her brother and sister walked to school. The school closed when she was in the 8th grade. All of the students were then sent to Edison.

Cora had three siblings. William “Bub” Gossett, Perry “Buster” Gossett and sister Opal Landon.

Cora married Reuben Frick and they had three children, Gary, Esther and Ralph Frick. Reuben passed in 1968.  Cora then married her second husband George W. Ansley having one son George A Ansley. Cora also added two step children to her family, Ruth Owens and Jim Ansley.

Cora was preceded in death by her first husband Reuben Frick, second husband George Ansley, her parents William and Esther Gossett, one brother William “Bub” Gossett, sister Opal Landon and stepdaughter Ruth Owens.

Cora  is survived by children Gary Frick of Cheraw, Colo.; Esther (Ruben Rael) Frick of La Junta, Colo.; Ralph Frick of Haswell, Colo. and George (Melissa) Ansley of Rocky Ford, Colo.; step son Jim (Tina) Ansley of Perryton, Texas; brother Perry (Karen) of Kinnear, Wyo. She is also survived by the two loves of her life, her grandchildren Tillie and Slade Ansley of Rocky Ford, Colo. She also is survived by several step grand and great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

As a kid, Cora helped her parents on the homestead piling beans and stalking corn, along with milking cows which she hated. She later helped husband Reuben take care of their farm and then again with her second husband George. Cora worked hard all her life.

Mom was best known for her homemade bread, cinnamon rolls, her angel food cakes, homemade noodles and fresh baked pies. We were always happy to find a great meal cooking when we came in from doing our chores, then later when we all came back for a visit on the farm and smelled the bread in the oven.

Cora passed away peacefully at her home on June 27, 2023.  Graveside services will be at a later date. Visitation for Cora was held on Friday, June 30, 2023 at the Brown Funeral Home Chapel in Eads. Cora’s family will be hosting a graveside committal service on July 21, 2023 at 10 a.m. at the Ordway Cemetery in Ordway, Colo.

Memorial contributions should be made to the charity of one’s own choosing. Friends and family can sign the guestbook and register online condolences at www.brownfuneraldirectors.com . Final arrangements were entrusted to the care of the Brown Funeral Home in Eads.
