Roberta Jean Gilbert

Roberta Jean Gilbert died peacefully at her home in Agate, Colo. on October 31, 2023, after a long battle with cancer. She was 82 years old.

Roberta was born on September 25, 1941, in Kiowa, Colo. to her parents Roy “Bud” Woodard and Catherine (Wall) Woodard. She was raised on the family farm in Agate, attending her first 11 years of school there, but graduating from Deer Trail High School in 1959.

On July 7, 1962, Roberta married William “Bill” Gilbert. Together they shared a beautiful union that spanned an incredible 61 years. They were constant companions everywhere they went.

As a young woman, Roberta showcased her musical talents by playing in the family dance band alongside her two sisters and father.  In addition to her musical pursuits, Roberta worked at the Deer Trail Locker Plant for 25 years and retired in 1999.  Bill and Roberta built a new house on the family ranch in 2000. 

Roberta loved working side by side with Bill as they cared for their livestock.  She enjoyed riding horseback and spending time in the yard growing flowers.  She loved mowing the yard on her John Deer tractor.  She was a past member of the Deer Trail Jockettes and the Deer Trail Elkettes.

Roberta’s biggest enjoyment was her family. Her love for her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren knew no bounds. She had a great personality and a contagious laugh. Anyone that met Roberta always walked away as a friend.

Roberta is survived by her loving husband William “Bill” Gilbert, her children Dennis (Melanie) Gilbert of Ramah, Colo.; Tammy (Brett) Bauman of Cheyenne, Wyo.; Derrell Gilbert and (Loreal Podzimek) of Casper, Wyo.; as well as her ten grandchildren: Dusty Gilbert, Tyler Richardson, Tate Bauman, Lance Gilbert, Kyle Gilbert, Ryan Gilbert, Case Gilbert, Devin Roswold, DaeLynne Urban, and Dani Keller. She also leaves behind 12 great-grandchildren and her siblings Sharron (Larry) Shorey and Arlene (John) Monnahan.

She is preceded in death by her parents.

Services honoring Roberta’s life were held at Love Funeral Home located at 225 F Avenue in Limon, Colo. Visitation took place on November 4, 2023 from 10-11 a.m.followed by a funeral service that started at 11 a.m.
