Carolyn Jane (Weikal) Poss

Carolyn Jane (Weikal) Poss, R.N., passed away peacefully on March 27, 2024, at the age of 83, in the Lincoln County Care Center.

Born on August 14, 1940, in Oil City, Pennsylvania, she was the cherished daughter of Clarence and Alma (Pearson) Weikal.  Carolyn’s life was filled with love, adventure, and dedication.

After graduating from Oil City High School in 1958, she pursued her passion for nursing, earning her Registered Nursing degree from Oil City Nursing School in 1960.

She then moved to Hugo, CO, where fate led her to William Edward Poss, her soulmate. They exchanged vows on February 10, 1965, at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Hugo, CO. Together they attended St. Anthony’s Catholic Church and Holy Cross Lutheran Church where she was actively involved in the church which brought her much joy serving those around her.

Carolyn devoted over 40 years of her life to serving the Hugo community as a registered nurse at the Lincoln Community Hospital/Care Center. Her commitment to caring for others extended beyond her professional life; she was a loving daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Carolyn cherished every moment spent with her family, never missing an opportunity to support them in their endeavors.

An avid reader and lover of the outdoors, Carolyn found joy in fishing, gardening, and soaking up the sun near the water. Knitting was her relaxation, she loved to knit a variety of beautiful and thoughtful items for those she loved. She had a passion for travel, especially to visit family back east and explore museums or natural wonders like Niagara Falls.

Carolyn Jane Poss will be remembered for her unwavering love, kindness, infectious spirit, and selfless dedication to others. Carolyn leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion. She is survived by her two children: daughter Angela Gaeddert of McPherson, KS; grandchildren Nichelle (Nate) Chastain, their children, Otto and Hugo of Kansas City, MO; Brooke and (Ethan) Fowler and their daughter Maren of Jackson, MS; William (Louie) Gaeddert of Lenexa, KS; son Kris (Amy) Poss and their children, Conner and Camden of Thorton, CO. Carolyn is also survived by a large extended family including in law’s, Judy (Tom) Klement of Eriksdale, MB; Charlene (Greg) Hinman of Joplin, MO; Mary (Bud) Andrews of Limon, CO; Terry (Roger) Korsvold of Castle Rock, CO; Richard Poss of Fort Frances, ON; Jim (Marilyn) Poss of Noblesville, IN. Carolyn was preceded in death by her father, Clarence James Weikal; mother, Alma Henrietta (Pearson) Weikal; husband, William Edward Poss; and son-in-law, Wade Arlin Gaeddert.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, April 6, 2024 at the Hugo United Methodist Church in Hugo. Burial followed in the Mount Calvary Cemetery in Hugo. Visitation was held from 12:00 to 6:00 p.m. on Friday, April 5, 2024 at the Brown Funeral Home in Hugo. Memorial contributions should be made to the Lincoln Community Care Center in Hugo or to the Zion Lutheran Church in Limon.
